Public Hearing for Term Limits Bills Scheduled

AUGUSTA - What: Public hearing on LD 1273, An Act to Extend Term Limits, and LD 1284, An Act to Extend Term Limits From 8 to 14 Years When: Tuesday, April 1, 1 p.m. Where: Legal and Veteran's Affairs Committee, Room 436, State House, Augusta

LD 1273 would extend the number of years of service authorized under the term limits law from eight to twelve years for state legislators, the Secretary of State, the Treasurer of the State, the Attorney General, and the State Auditor. This matter would be decided at statewide referendum in 2003.

LD 1284 would extend the number of years of service authorized under the term limits law from eight to fourteen years for state legislators.

LD 1273 is sponsored by Rep. Pingree (D-North Haven), and co-sponsored by Senators Gagnon of Kennebec, Hatch of Somerset, and Mayo of Sagadahoc, and Representatives Blanchette of Bangor, Canavan of Waterville, Clark of Millinocket, Fischer of Presque Isle, Mills of Cornville, and House Majority Leader Richardson of Brunswick.
